In one of the most famous tales, Nachum Ish Gamzu was sent to present a treasure to the Roman Emperor. Along the way, an innkeeper stole the valuables and replaced them with ordinary sand. When the emperor discovered the “gift,” he was furious and prepared to punish Nachum. But a minister—who was, in truth, Elijah the Prophet in disguise—suggested that perhaps the sand was not ordinary at all, but the same miraculous sand that Abraham had used to win a battle.
